On July 23, a delegation of Chinese enterprises organized by Abrasivestocks made its debut at the Bangkok Hardware and Grinding Tools Exhibition. This marks our fourth overseas mission this year, following successful trips to Japan, Australia, and Egypt. As the only professional hardware show in Southeast Asia, the exhibition floor wasn’t as crowded as some might expect — but every visitor to our booth came with clear, specific needs. This kind of “targeted matchmaking” revealed a more genuine picture of the ASEAN market.

Unlike previous years, the first question many buyers asked was: “Do you have a factory or warehouse in Thailand?” This signals a clear shift — the traditional foreign trade model is giving way to localized operations. Chinese companies with established local operations in Thailand clearly hold the upper hand.

Thai contractors are increasingly focused on the durability of power tools and fasteners. One customer put it bluntly: “Construction sites are racing against the clock — we can’t afford tool failures.” Market analysis shows that ASEAN’s infrastructure development continues to accelerate, with significant demand growth in transportation, construction, and metalworking sectors for high-quality tools.

Meanwhile, the growing popularity of DIY culture is also fueling rapid expansion in the household tool market. Industry experts predict that the ASEAN hardware tools sector will maintain strong growth in the coming years, offering substantial opportunities for Chinese companies.

This exhibition experience gave us valuable insight: ASEAN has enormous market potential, but tapping into it requires a mindset shift. Chinese companies that have built localized operational systems in Thailand are already gaining a clear first-mover advantage.
